Whether SNC-Lavalin gets the sweetheart deal it has been seeking to avoid criminal prosecution on bribery and fraud charges is now purely a political decision.

On Friday the company lost a request for the courts to overturn a decision by the Director of the Public Prosecution Service to take the company to court.

The allegations against the company include bribing the Libyan government of late dictator Muammar Gaddafi to the tune of $48 million and defrauding organizations in that country of more than $130 million.
