A March 6th video from CBC’s The National reveals that information given to SNC-Lavalin shareholders in late 2018 revealed the company had suffered an operating loss of $1.3 billion in 2018 compared to a profit in 2017. It’s oil and gas business in Saudi Arabia had been hurt in part because of “difficult inter-governmental relations between Canada and Saudi Arabia.”
In the summer of 2018 Global Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland tweeted:
That tweet infuriated the Saudi Arabian government and relations have not recovered. SNC-Lavalin’s share price has fallen sharply in recent months.
Is there a connection? Did SNC-Lavalin lobbyists speak to this point to government? Is this why Chrystia Freeland is supporting the PM over the former AG? Could this be the real reason why the efforts to change the AG’s mind were so intense and continuous over a four month period? Did Chrystia Freeland tank SNC-Lavalin’s stock price with a tweet?
